About Ms. Tomasik

This is page is a short overview of my background in English literature and writing. I attended the University of Arizona for my Bachelor of Arts in creative writing with my minor in classical literature. During my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Cork, Ireland focusing on Irish literature at the University College Cork. After leaving UA in 2007, I was immediately hired as features editor for Arizona Foothills Magazine and their Tucson book while also penning their arts and travel sections. I've also served as an editor and book reviewer for The Moon Valley Tattler, a community newspaper, in Phoenix.

In 2008, I decided to return to school to work on my graduate degree on English education at Arizona State University. Because I was transitioning to education, I ran the early education program for The City of Tempe at Escalante Community Center for two years. It was a blast! I student taught 7th grade at Willis Junior High in Chandler when I was finishing my M.Ed in December 2010.

This will be my second year at ACAA! Last year, I taught middle school English and ran the MS Creative Writing Club. Members were able to travel to Venice, California and publish their own Create Your Own Adventure stories. I'm very much looking forward to teaching modern and classic literature to high school students this year!

Finally--and although this is completely non-English and education related-- I am a proud aunt to my 6-year old niece, Mara, and 3 crazy nephews all under the age three. I have a lively and playful 10-year old golden retriever, Bailey! My boyfriend, Adam, is also a teacher although he focuses on teaching middle school social studies.
